The Separation and the Atonement
In this class, we will explore one of the most powerful spiritual teachings in walking in Miracles: how we became lost in fear, guilt, and confusion—and how we are gently led back to peace, love, and healing through the Atonement. This class is not about learning something new, but about remembering what we already know deep inside: that we are one with God and with each other. Through nine key sections, we will awaken to the truth of who we are, and we will allow miracles to guide us home.
1. The Origins of Separation
We will begin by examining how the illusion of separation began. The Course teaches that the idea we could be separate from God was a tiny, mad idea that we forgot to laugh at. Though this thought has no real power, we believed in it, and that belief seemed to create a world based on fear, conflict, and guilt.
- Genesis 3:6 – “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good... she took some and ate it.” This act of “eating the fruit” symbolizes choosing separation from God’s will.
- Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Sin, in this context, is the illusion of separation.
- Isaiah 53:6 – “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.”
2. The Atonement as Defense
Next, we will learn how the Atonement—a correction rather than a punishment—is our divine defense against separation. It gently undoes the error, reminding us that we never truly left God. Jesus, as our elder brother, demonstrated the Atonement through his resurrection, showing that death has no power over truth.
- John 14:6 – “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
- Romans 5:10 – “We were reconciled to God through the death of his Son.”
- Hebrews 7:25 – “He is able to save completely those who come to God through him.”
3. The Altar of God
We will then turn inward to discover the altar of God within our minds. This is not a physical altar, but the sacred space where truth dwells, untouched by illusion. At this altar, we can remember our divine identity and choose again.
- 1 Corinthians 3:16 – “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”
- Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”
- Matthew 6:6 – “Go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.”
4. Healing as Release from Fear
Here, we will explore how true healing comes not from fixing the body, but from releasing fear. Fear is always a sign that we have chosen the ego instead of love. As we let go of fear, miracles occur naturally.
- 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
- 1 John 4:18 – “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.”
- Matthew 9:22 – “Your faith has healed you.”
5. The Function of the Miracle Worker
In this section, we will embrace our role as miracle workers. A miracle is a shift in perception—from fear to love. Our function is to extend healing by seeing others as they truly are, beyond appearances and errors.
- John 14:12 – “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.”
- Matthew 10:8 – “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.”
- Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
6. Special Principles of Miracle Workers
We will study the foundational principles that support our miracle-working. These include trust, humility, and the willingness to be led by the Holy Spirit. Miracles are expressions of love, and love is our true power.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
- Philippians 2:3 – “In humility value others above yourselves.”
- Romans 8:14 – “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
7. Fear and Conflict
We will confront the roots of fear and conflict. The Course teaches that all conflict comes from the ego’s belief in separation. When we identify with the ego, we suffer. But when we choose the Holy Spirit’s guidance, peace returns.
- James 4:1 – “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?”
- John 16:33 – “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
- Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”
8. Cause and Effect
This section teaches us that we are not victims of the world we see. Instead, our thoughts cause our experiences. When we think with God, we create miracles. When we think with the ego, we experience pain.
- Galatians 6:7 – “A man reaps what he sows.”
- Proverbs 23:7 – “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
- Matthew 12:35 – “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him.”
9. The Meaning of the Last Judgment
Finally, we will uncover the true meaning of the Last Judgment—not as punishment, but as the joyful end of illusion. It is God’s gentle verdict that we are still His beloved children, and always have been.
- John 3:17 – “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
- Romans 8:1 – “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
- Isaiah 1:18 – “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”
A Loving Invitation
This class will not ask you to believe anything you don’t already feel is true. It will invite you to remember. Through the gentle teachings of Walking in Miracles, paired with the timeless wisdom of scripture, we will walk together from fear to love, from illusion to truth, and from separation to union. You are not alone. Miracles are natural, and with every step, you will remember that you are deeply loved.
